Adirondack rinodina lichen
Rinodina tenuis Müll.Arg.
Adirondack rinodina is a crustose lichen whose thin, pale gray body spreads as a continuous patch across its substrate. The name Rinodina adirondackii was based on a specimen collected on cedar in New York’s Adirondack Mountains in 1933. Comparison with Japanese material later connected it with the older name Rinodina tenuis. Sheard and colleagues (2017): The lichen genus Rinodina in north-eastern Asia

Botanical name
Sheard and colleagues (2017) place Rinodina adirondackii in synonymy with R. tenuis. The New Brunswick account follows this treatment while noting that molecular comparison of the disjunct populations is still needed. Recognizing the plant
Its small fruiting bodies emerge through the lichen surface and remain broadly attached. They have dark, flat discs bordered by a rim the color of the surrounding thallus. Chemical examination detects pannarin. In studied New Brunswick specimens, the relatively large spores commonly measured about 26–31 by 13–16 micrometers, making microscopic characters important to identification. Native range
The treatment adopted here connects eastern North American populations with eastern Asian records. In New Brunswick, documented sites lie in mature, wet forest, including river terraces and slopes influenced by seepage. Ecological relationships
All eighteen specimens from fourteen New Brunswick localities grew on eastern white cedar, on trunks or lower branches. This is a documented regional substrate association. Clayden, Driscoll and Harries: The lichen genus Rinodina in New Brunswick, Canada
