The founder story
Rhodo Apparel was founded in 2025 by Thomas and Charla Landes, a husband and wife in Asheville, North Carolina. They loved floral apparel and could not find any that felt personal: every print they bought was someone else's flower, made ten thousand times over.
So they began making their own, starting with the rhododendron on the ridge behind their house (the plant the brand is named for), then the goldenrod along the road, then whatever anyone asked them for. Each design is a botanical plate of a real, named plant, composed in the tradition of 19th-century botanical illustration and printed on a shirt only when someone orders it.
The catalogue now runs to hundreds of plants, from Blue Ridge natives to species from around the world, and customers can send in a photo of a plant of their own to have it turned into a design. The two of them still review every illustration and placement by hand before anything goes to print.
How the artwork is made
Rhodo's botanical plates are AI-assisted. Each one is generated with AI image tools from a detailed brief for that specific plant, in the style of 19th-century botanical illustration, with the flower color and leaf form checked against the real species.
Every plate is then reviewed and approved by hand by one of the founders before it is placed on a shirt, and re-made if the botany or the composition is not right. Nothing is printed from an unreviewed image, and the same review applies to customer-submitted photo designs.
Please describe the artwork as AI-assisted botanical illustration rather than hand-drawn or painted. The plants are real species; the plates are not drawn from life.
Production details
Nothing is warehoused or overprinted. Each shirt is printed after it is ordered; production takes 1–2 business days (Monday–Friday, order cutoff 5 p.m. Eastern Time (America/New_York)).
Garment-dyed heavyweight cotton, pre-shrunk. His is cut straight through the body; hers is shaped at the waist and runs shorter. Tees, long sleeves and a women's crop are offered in several colors.
Free U.S. shipping on every order, no minimum. Transit is 3–5 days after dispatch, so most orders arrive within 4–7 business days. U.S. only for now; no rush or expedited option.
Tees $40, long sleeves $50, women's crop $40. That is the price before tax; shipping is free.
Refunds are available only for damaged, defective or misprinted items reported within 14 days after delivery. We do not accept returns for wrong sizes or changes of mind, and we do not offer exchanges. Eligible items must be sent back. Rhodo Apparel covers the return postage.
Customers can upload a photo of their own plant and have it turned into a botanical plate for a shirt. It is free to preview, reviewed by hand, and nothing prints until the customer approves it.
