snow-white everlasting

Gamochaeta chionesthes G.L.Nesom

Snow-white everlasting reveals its strongest contrast when a leaf is turned over. The upper face is light green with sparse, closely pressed hairs, while the underside has a dense white covering. Its basal leaves remain through flowering, forming a low foundation beneath the ascending or upright stems. Flora of North America: Gamochaeta chionesthes

Recognizing the plant

The fibrous-rooted plants range from very small individuals to about forty-five centimetres tall. Their stems have a smooth-looking whitish covering. Leaves are widest above the middle, narrowing toward their bases; they become progressively smaller upward and eventually resemble narrow bracts. Small flower heads pack into cylindrical arrays, with additional clusters sometimes developing in lower leaf axils. The bracts around each head have pointed tips.
